A dental implant is a titanium covered screw which is placed below the gum tissue and into the jaw bone. The bone then heals around the implant over the next four to six months, after which the implant is restored with a custom abutment and a custom crown. Implants are the next closest restoration to a natural tooth. They look, feel, and function like a natural tooth.
